An Interesting Easter to Say the Least

Camping over the Easter weekend at Casini Ranch Family Campground near the Russian River has officially become tradition for our family and the Doughertys. We camped there last year and enjoyed ourselves so much that we returned this year.

Each year they hold an Easter Egg hunt for the kids and even have the Easter bunny there greeting the children and posing for photos. This year they even had a donkey and shetland pony petting zoo. There were 2 baby donkeys there that were so adorable! The kids had an opportunity to name them both by putting their suggestions in a box.

The kids got kites in their Easter baskets so we took advantage of the windy field down from our campsite and flew kites with breathtaking views in the background. And talk about a photo opportunity!

We were lucky to have beautiful sunny weather over the weekend but suffered through cold nights. Thankfully we stocked up on lots of wood to keep our campfire going until we were ready to call it a night.

Ginger's family came in on Sunday and we all enjoyed a great Easter meal. Check out that table!

Despite lots of good times we also endured a firewood chopping mishap. Hint: never use a hunting knife to try to cut wood into kindling! ;) Ginger's brother-in-law ended up with stitches at the emergency room that night but came back and braved the rest of the trip. He was even kind enough to do some Sharpie tattooing on the kids for fun - bandaged finger and all. Oh, and did I mention that he is a Barista and we had perfectly-percolated coffee every morning? Life is good!

We also had a scare of pink eye but I believe ended up being a case of eye allergies. And to top the trip off Darren suffered what I think was a migraine on Easter morning and ended up vomiting just as he found his Easter basket. Poor guy! He had a nice hour-long nap and then woke up like nothing had happened. I'm so glad kids are so resilient.
