dear to my heart

Today is World Autism Awareness Day. Autism exists in people I know and love. If you aren't familiar with autism, please check out Autism Speaks, an awesome website for facts, support, charity and other helpful links. This neurobiological disorder affects 1 in 150 people.

Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe.

If diagnosed at an early age, therapies can significantly improve communication, social and cognitive skills.

Here's to a truly great day.
